Foreign This is from a game played between Chapavalov and kitayev Played in the Soviet correspondence Championship in 1967. I think it's a really instructive Position where white just has A lot of activity with the major pieces But Black's King position seems to be Fairly solid but there's a really nice Way to crack Black's King open so why to Play and win are you ready First move Rook H4 okay that seems Pretty straightforward Threatening a mate on h8 There's only one sensible way to defend And that's to push the queen back to Cover Square here Now how do you make progress because it Feels as though you know that Queen can Just step back And once you're offer an exchange of Queens then black seems pretty solid so A check King has to step to F8 And now here is the very clever part What does white play next Rook F4 nice move of course if that's Taken then Queen h8 is already mate So the queen has to step back here Seems safe but there's a way to unlock Black's King position and that's to play
Rook takes Pawn And if King takes then Rook F1 it's Already Checkmate here And if Queen takes Queen h8 check Queen G8 has to block And again Rook F1 is Checkmate a very Neat solution If you want to see the solution in a Graphics board you want to play through The moves yourself then do check out Chesspuzzle.net and you'll find lots More puzzles there as well
