Foreign This game is from the world championship For over 65s which John Nunn won and John is playing with white here 's The Exchange down but he'd worked out A very subtle way to win this one and Well you've got to get all the Variations right not just the first move This is very tricky So he started with Queen B6 Threatening Queen F6 and then mate on G7 Now how does black stop the queen Getting there well in the game His opponents Nathan beamboine from uh Israel played Bishop B6 And then Very nice winning move The queen stepped back Queen B5 and that Was the end of the game so why did Black Resign well the threat is Queen takes Pawn and the queen comes in And if F6 Now the seventh rank is open and queen B7 is a winning move threatening Queen G7 And if the bishop blocks the queen of Course takes the rook and mate in a Couple of moves Gotta get the right move here Queen B5 Is correct if Queen D6 Then the queen comes back to defend This doesn't work and queen E7 trying to Get to G5 Queen d8 blocks the queen out
Now let's come back to this position so The the starting move Queen B6 what About Bishop C6 blocking the queen Well that Queen can then play to A6 Hitting the Rook Now if the Rook moves away from the Bishop then the queen just takes and Gets into the king so Rook C7 and now Beautiful move this just shows the power Of the queen queen A3 threatening mate On f8 and when The Rook steps back Queen E7 and the queen breaks through And another defense after let me see Queen queen B6 Queen D1 now if the queen Comes to F6 then the queen can actually Defend White is still doing very well here but It's not over immediately But instead of after Queen D1 instead of Queen F6 far better move is simply F3 Blocking out the queen and then yeah It's very simple Bishop B6 Well actually Queen D6 is good Threatening to take and of course F6 can Be met by Queen takes Bishop So there we go Queen B6 is the winning move and there Is no defense for black after that
